The average rating across the 286 readers and shops we track is 4.73★. A perfect score with a dozen reviews means almost nothing; some of the highest-rated listings in the city have review patterns that are statistically impossible.

This list is ranked by our trust score instead: a 0–100 measure that shrinks small samples toward the average, rewards long and recent review histories, and penalizes review distributions that look bought. To qualify here a reader needs at least 20 Google reviews. 14 listings — those flagged for suspicious review patterns or operated by national call-center chains — are excluded from this page entirely, though they keep their regular directory listings.

Every listing gets a 0–100 trust score computed from its public Google review record. The components:

30%Review volume Log-scaled and saturating at 300 reviews, so volume helps but can’t be bought into dominance.
25%Recency Months since the most recent review. A reader with 200 reviews that stop in 2021 has, in practice, quit. No other directory uses this signal.
5%Owner engagement Whether the business responds to its reviews.
×0.75Review-gaming penalty Applied where the review distribution is statistically implausible — for example, hundreds of five-star reviews and not a single 3 or 4. Flagged listings are also barred from this ranking outright.
